Fish Oil EPA vs. DHA Ratio for Dogs: What Actually Supports Joints and Brain

Start from the joint, not the bottle. That’s how I read every fish oil label a client hands me in an exam room: what is the total EPA plus DHA this dog is getting per pound, and does it match what the osteoarthritis literature actually tested. The EPA ratio printed on the front of the package is marketing shorthand. It is not, by itself, a dosing instruction, and it is not the variable that moved the needle in the trials I trust.

Do this first: find the total EPA+DHA milligrams per serving, not the ratio. Flip the bottle, find the supplement facts panel, and add EPA plus DHA together. Compare that number against your dog’s weight.
